15 year sentence in mount vernon CHURCH STABBING

 

 

 

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Jonathan Green

(DOB 09/18/72) of 49-51 Elm Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York, was sentenced today to a determinate term of 15 years in state prison on his guilty plea to the top count of the indictment charging him with:

 

·         one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony,

 

relating to the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend.

 

On August 3, 2011, at approximately 9:01 pm, the defendant approached his ex-girlfriend as she left choir practice in front of the Greater Centennial Church located at 311 South 8th Avenue in Mount Vernon.

 

The defendant stabbed the 53-year-old victim multiple times with a kitchen knife, which broke off and remained lodged in the victim’s back.

 

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

 

The defendant fled the scene.

 

Mount Vernon Police began an investigation and arrested the defendant in Pelham on the morning of August 5, 2011 as he was attempting to leave the area.

 

In the days before and following the attack, the defendant left threatening phone messages on the victim’s cell phone.

 

Assistant District Attorney Amy Puerto, Deputy Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, prosecuted the case.
