On June 7th, 2009, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Calise and an accomplice, Maurice Mann, went to the Sound Shore Fishing Club on Union Avenue in New Rochelle and asked the victim to come outside to speak with them.

Once outside, Calise demanded money from the victim, who denied owing Calise any money.

Defendant Mann grabbed the victim by the waist and threw him to the ground and held him down by the neck and choked him.  During this time, defendant Calise was screaming to the victim to give him his arm because Calise wanted to cut it.

Defendant Calise removed a meat cleaver from his waist and started hitting the victim on the head. Defendant Calise hit the victim several times on the head and then several times on both ankles with the meat clever.  Defendant Mann pulled the victim’s right arm out and held it out while defendant Calise hit the victim on the right wrist several times with the meat cleaver.

After the assault, the defendants returned to their car where defendant Calise dropped the meat clever on the street.

Defendant Mann then picked up the meat clever, opened the door of the vehicle and then placed the meat clever in a plastic coffee can in the rear of the vehicle.

Arriving police were directed by a large crowd to follow a black SUV. Police gave chase and stopped it nearby. When the defendants were removed from their vehicle, police noticed that they were covered with large amounts of blood on their hands, arms and clothing.

Additionally, police recovered a red plastic coffee can containing a bloody meat clever from the floor of the back of the vehicle behind the passenger seat.
