Defendant: Iran Colon (DOB 01/17/87)

Nov. 7, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Iran Colon, a suspended Correction Officer, employed by NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), pleaded guilty to:

  • Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, class D felonies
  • Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree, class E felonies

Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit accepted the plea. Colon is scheduled back in court for sentencing

Feb. 27, 2019. Currently, he is free on bail. Colon was suspended without pay May 2, 2018.

Background
New York State Police arrested Iran Colon, a correction officer based at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, last May at his home on Staten Island. Following arrest, he was arraigned in Westchester County Court on a 19-count indictment stemming from illegal activities involving an inmate victim between May 1, 2017 and Sept. 23, 2017. Taconic Correctional Facility is a medium security correctional facility in Bedford Hills that houses women only.

Assistant District Attorneys Laura Murphy, Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau, and Jennifer Sculco of the Public Integrity Unit are prosecuting these crimes.

Note: Colon’s arrest with two other employees was the subject of a news conference May 4, 2018, at the District Attorney’s Office.
