Defendant: Theresa Casey (03/25/59)

June 7, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Wednesday that Theresa Casey of Yonkers pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class C felony, before Westchester County Judge Michael Martinelli, in relation to the theft of almost $250,000 from the Tarrytown company where she was employed.

Casey worked in the payroll department as a bookkeeper for Allan M. Block Insurance Company, which provides life insurance, homeowner’s insurance, and insurance for businesses. The defendant was in charge of payroll for the company.  As part of her responsibilities, she managed payments to insurance agents, who were paid on commission. In reviewing commission payment records, company owners discovered irregularities. They determined that the defendant had been improperly paying herself as a commissioned employee in addition to her regular salary. The owners then reported the theft to the Tarrytown Police.

Casey pleaded guilty to stealing $246,752.11 from her employer from May 2014 to February 2017. Her sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2018. Casey faces a maximum of six years in state prison.

The investigation was conducted by Tarrytown Police Department. Assistant District Attorney Gwen Galef, Chief of the Economic Crimes Bureau of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Investigations Division, prosecuted the case.
