Defendant: Renzo Yance (DOB 11/20/95)

May 3, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Renzo Yance of Yonkers pleaded guilty Tuesday before Judge George Fufidio to Manslaughter in the August 26, 2017 fatal crash that claimed the life of his 19-year-old-rear seat passenger, Nina Cordero and injured his front-seat passenger, Cordero’s boyfriend.

Specifically, Yance pleaded guilty to:

  • Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class C Felony;
  • Assault in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor

Background
Around 7:15 p.m. on the evening of the crash, Yonkers police reported an overturned BMW was found on Central Park Avenue near Sadore Lane, with a woman passenger having been ejected from the vehicle further down the road. She was unconscious and unresponsive at the time. Later, Cordero was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Yance was driving without a license at more than approximately 100 miles an hour on a city road and it was that high speed that contributed to the crash.

Yance also pleaded guilty to two unrelated charges stemming from an earlier incident on August 6, 2017 in Dobbs Ferry where Yance was driving without a license and under the influence of drugs:

  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, a class E Felony
  • Driving While Ability Impaired

Yance faces up to 15 years in state prison when he is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5, 2018.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Julia Cornachio, Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Unit.
