May 31, 2016 -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Dimas Pedro DOB (11/24/83) of 2 Lawrence Street, Yonkers, NY was sentenced today to twenty-five years in state prison on his March 22, 2016 conviction of:

  • one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Felony.

On Oct. 22, 2014 at approximately 9:42 a.m., the defendant entered a deli located at 27 Lawrence St. in Yonkers. He was armed with a loaded semi-automatic weapon. The defendant then pointed the gun at the victim and began shooting him at close range. He continued shooting after the victim fell to the ground.

The victim was shot in the right thigh and in the area of the left collarbone. The resulting injuries left the victim permanently paralyzed below the waist.

The defendant was arrested by the Yonkers Police Department that same day.

The defendant and the victim were acquaintances. They had been involved in a prior dispute.

Along with the state prison sentence, the defendant was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.   

Assistant District Attorney Nadine Nagler and Assistant District Attorney Shameika Mathurin of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
