March 14, 2016 -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Karmel Mills (DOB 09/26/75) of 52 Ravine Ave., Apt. 2, Yonkers, NY was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:

• two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, class "A" Felonies,
• one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a class "B" Felony,
• one count of Strangulation in the First Degree-Obstruction of Breathing/Blood Circulation-Causing Serious Physical Injury, a class "C" Felony

in the death of David Pinnock.

On Jan. 19, 2016 at approximately 7:09 p.m., members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to a 911 call and proceeded to 52 Ravine Ave.

Upon their arrival, they found the door to the victim's apartment had been broken off the hinges and the defendant choking the victim within the victim's apartment. The police officers ordered Mills off the victim and he complied. The defendant, who was bleeding from his head was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital.

The victim, meanwhile had no pulse, and police performed CPR. Arriving EMT's were able to resuscitate him and he was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was put into an induced coma and attached to a ventilator.

The victim suffered blunt force trauma, kidney and lung failure as well as brain damage. He was removed from the ventilator on Feb. 6, 2016 and pronounced dead.

The defendant and the victim were neighbors in the same apartment building. They had an ongoing dispute.

Mills pled not guilty to the charges.

The defendant was remanded.

His next court date is March 30, 2016.

The charge of Murder in the Second Degree brings with it the possibility of an indeterminate term of imprisonment, the maximum of which is 25 years to life in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Lana Hochheiser of the Superior Court Trial Division is prosecuting the case.
