March 27, 2014 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Michael Gallo (DOB 11/07/90) of 2156 Crompond Road, Yorktown, New York was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:

  • one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class ”D” Felony,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony,
  • one count of Official Misconduct, a class ”A” Misdemeanor.

At the time of the thefts, the defendant was an employee of the Westchester County Department of Parks and Recreation assigned to Kensico Dam Park.

Over the period of five months, from January through May 2013, the defendant without any authorization or consent from supervisors, removed various items from his workplace and brought them to Brookfield Metal Resources Center, a resource recovery and recycling company in Elmsford.

The items that were taken and redeemed included:

  • six electric golf cart batteries
  • five additional batteries
  • four brass couplers
  • eight brass sprinkler heads
  • two large spot lamps
  • one sump pump
  • one power washer
  • one hand truck

The replacement value of the items is approximately $14,762.42.

The Westchester County police were alerted by Parks Department supervisors and initiated an investigation.

The defendant was arrested in June of 2013.

His next court appearance will be on April 10, 2014.

He faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ronco of the Public Integrity Bureau is prosecuting the case.
