Welcome to the Fall 2008 issue of The Criminal Law News, a quarterly newsletter produced by the Appeals and Special Litigation Division of the District Attorney's office.

Throughout the year, The Westchester County District Attorney's Office in conjunction with various local police departments conducts the "Watch Your Car" VIN etching program.

 

The program involves the etching of the motor vehicle's unique VIN - Vehicle Identification Number - onto all window glass to help combat auto theft. The process of etching takes only a short period of time, and is unobtrusive. No appointment is necessary and vehicles will be taken on a first come first served basis.

 

“Watch Your Car” is free of cost, open to all Westchester residents and can result in a reduction of your automobile insurance premiums.

District Attorney Janet DiFiore and members of the Special Prosecutions Division - Domestic Violence Bureau - at the inauguration of the Yonkers Domestic Violence Unit.

An Assistant District Attorney and Domestic Violence Aide - from the DV Bureau - will be assigned full time to the Yonkers Bureau to work with the Yonkers Police and Integrated Domestic Violence Court in combating domestic violence crimes in the City of Yonkers.

"Placing an Assistant District Attorney, who will focus exclusively on domestic violence cases, directly in the City Court Bureau, will bring added continuity, counseling for victims and targeted prosecution of the abusers, closer to the people of Yonkers,"  said District Attorney Janet DiFiore.
