Background
On June 3, 2016, at approximately midnight, the first victim, a female aged 42 from Mount Kisco, was at home asleep in bed when an unknown male intruder (who turned out to be the defendant) unlawfully entered  her home, climbed on top of her, and sexually attacked her. During the struggle with her attacker, she took a gray baseball hat off his head as he fled.

On Aug. 21, 2016, at approximately 8 a.m., the second victim, a female aged 19, arrived at the Purdys Metro North train station after commuting from New York City. As she walked through the stairwell and platform heading to the parking lot, she was approached by a stranger, Sandoval-Campos, who attempted to engage her in conversation. The victim continued to walk toward a footpath leading to Route 116 and ignored the defendant. Upon entering the footpath, Sandoval-Campos grabbed the victim, restrained her on the ground, proceeded to grope her body attempting to remove her clothing, and exposed himself. A good Samaritan in the parking lot responded to the victim’s screams and prevented her rape. Sandoval-Campos ran from the scene dropping an orange baseball cap he was wearing during this attack.

DNA results conducted from each cap recovered from the crime scenes were entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) and the cases were linked to each other conclusively establishing Sandoval-Campos identification as the perpetrator of both events. Sandoval-Campos was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016.

At the end of today’s trial, Sandoval-Campos was remanded into custody and is scheduled for sentencing

Sept. 18, 2018. He faces up to 30 years in state prison and will have to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michelle Lopez, Bureau Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau.
