Dec. 21, 2017 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. today announced that Joel Thompson of Yonkers, New York was arraigned and charged with manslaughter after killing a Yonkers teenager with his car.

Specifically, Thompson was charged with one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony, in the death of Madysen Denman.

On Wednesday, Dec. 20th, 2017, at approximately 9:40 AM, members of the Yonkers Police Officers were responding to reports of a dispute at the vicinity of Nepperhan Avenue at Ashburton Avenue when they were advised that a vehicle intentionally drove onto the sidewalk, struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. Upon arrival, they found the victim on the ground in a lifeless state. Empress Ambulance was dispatched and the victim was pronounced deceased at scene.

Police were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle and a short time later, Thompson, 22, was apprehended and taken into custody.

During today’s proceeding, Thompson pled not guilty and was remanded.

If convicted, he faces 25 years in state prison. His next court date is Jan. 24, 2018.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Hochheiser, Deputy Bureau Chief of the Homicide Bureau.
