July 7, 2017 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced today that Marc Seward (DOB 09/02/91) of 268 9th Ave., Mount Vernon, NY pled guilty before Judge Anne Minihan to:

  • one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B”  Violent Felony

in the shooting of Markel Overton.

On or about Aug. 9, 2015, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Markel Overton was in the vicinity of 523 South Fulton Ave. in the City of Mount Vernon when he was shot multiple times by Marc Seward. 

Mount Vernon Police officers who were on patrol at the time of the shooting heard multiple gunshots coming from the area.

Mount Vernon police were then notified by Mount Vernon Hospital personnel that the victim was at the hospital. They learned that Overton had been shot approximately seven times.

Surveillance video from a nearby business was part of the evidence in this case.

The defendant will be sentenced on Aug. 17, 2017.

He faces up to twenty-five years in state prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jean Prisco of the Superior Court Trial Division and Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ronco of the Investigations Division.
