July 27, 2016 -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced today that Barry Shevit (DOB 05/09/48) of 282 Katonah Ave., Katonah, NY, pled guilty to:

  • one count of Repeated Failure to File Personal Returns, a class “E” Felony.

The tax fraud came to light during an investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office into the defendant’s consignment business.

The defendant failed to file Personal Income Tax returns for three consecutive years with New York State.

In 2011, there was a tax liability of $10,153. In 2012, there was a tax liability of $3,112 and in 2013, there was a tax liability of $6,281. 

The total amount of the unpaid tax liability, including prior tax years, is approximately $28,862. 

Shevit was arrested on March 20, 2015 by investigators from the New York State Police.

He was released on his own recognizance at that time.

The defendant will be sentenced on Oct. 19, 2016.

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Gamble of the Economic Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case.
