July 31, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced today that Keith Thigpen (DOB 09/24/92) of  177 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, New York, Adam Kirkland (DOB 09/24/91) of 295 East 4th Street, Mount Vernon, New York, and Eric Chappelle (DOB 08/17/92) were arraigned on an indictment related to a fatal armed robbery in Yonkers.

Defendants Thigpen and Kirkland are charged with:

  • three counts of Murder in the Second Degree, class “A-1” Felonies,

All three defendants are charged with:

  • one count of Robbery in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony,
  • one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony,
  • one count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony,

On May 18, 2013, at approximately 7:15 pm, Yonkers Police responded to 6 Winnebago Road where they found 49 year old Henry DeMatteo collapsed outside his apartment building with a stab wound to the chest.

The victim was rushed to Lawrence Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The defendants fled the scene.

Within minutes of Yonkers Police receiving 911 calls from neighbors, the three defendants were apprehended a short distance away.

Thigpen and Kirkland were found in possession of some of the victim’s belongings when they were taken into custody.

The weapon, a knife, was recovered.

Chappelle was arraigned July 30, 2013 on the indictment and bail was set at $50,000 cash/bond.

Thigpen and Kirkland were remanded following arraignment on July 31, 2013.

The next court date is August 22, 2013.

Thigpen and Kirkland each face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison on the top count of the indictment.

Chappelle faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Lana Hocheiser of the Superior Court Trial Division is prosecuting the case.
