Jan. 9, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that David Piparo (DOB 10/17/62) of 1150 Lawrence Avenue, Bronx, New York, was sentenced today to 20 years to life in state prison for his guilty plea to:
• one count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class “B” Violent Felony,
relating to a gunpoint robbery.
On Nov. 24, 2010, at approximately 8:45 pm, in the area of the CVS Pharmacy located at 4760 Boston Post Road in Pelham Manor, the defendant approached a woman inside her 2001 BMW vehicle and displayed a gun.
He ordered the woman at gunpoint to exit the vehicle and drove it away.
Pelham Manor Police began an investigation during which they were contacted by the NYPD regarding robberies which they were investigating in the Bronx.
On Dec. 3, 2010, the defendant was arrested by the NYPD’s Violent Felony Apprehension Unit at an apartment in the Bronx.
The stolen car was located nearby.
The defendant was sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender, having been previously convicted of three violent felony charges of Robbery in the First Degree in Bronx County on March 22, 1996, June 11, 1985, and April 19, 1985.
Following the sentencing, District Attorney Janet DiFiore said, “Cooperation with our law enforcement partners in the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the New York City Police Department, ensures that this violent felony offender will effectively serve the rest of his life behind bars.”
On Oct. 2, 2012, the defendant was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison relating to three additional armed robberies, one of which occurred at Tes Oros Jewelry Store in Pelham Manor on Nov. 30, 2010, and two others in the Bronx.
The defendant will serve his sentence in federal custody and then subsequently serve the rest of his term in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy of the Superior Court Trial Division and Assistant District Attorney Justin Tolbert prosecuted the case.
