Feb. 17, 2017 --

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced today that Emily Dearden (DOB 05/15/68) of 82 Pondfield Road West, Yonkers, NY, pled guilty before Judge Barry Warhit to:

  • one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a class ”C” Violent Felony,

relating to the shooting of her husband, Kenneth Dearden.

On Nov. 14, 2013 at approximately 4 a.m., the victim, Kenneth Dearden woke up with a pain on the left side of his head.

Police and EMS are called. The victim was then taken to the hospital where they determined that he had been shot in the head.

He was then transferred to a trauma center. Detectives obtained a search warrant and returned to the crime scene.

The victim spent approximately eight days at Westchester Medical Center where he underwent surgery to remove a .22 caliber bullet from his jaw.

On Nov. 21, 2014 Yonkers detectives arrested the defendant.

At the time the shot was fired, the couple’s children were sleeping only a few feet away.

Dearden remains out on bail.

The defendant will be sentenced on June 7, 2017.

She faces a maximum sentence of fifteen years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Wendy Parra and Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd of the Special Prosecutions Division are prosecuting the case.
