April 13, 2016 -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Brendan Cronin (DOB 12/11/86) of 60 Ball Ave., Yonkers, NY was sentenced today to nine years in state prison on each felony count after having plead guilty on September 22nd, 2015 to:
- two counts of Attempted Murder, class “B” Felonies,
- two counts of Assault in the First Degree, class “B” Felonies,
- one count of Driving While Intoxicated, a class “A” Misdemeanor.
On April 29, 2014, at approximately 11:55 PM, the defendant, an off duty New York City Police Officer after spending a day of in-service training at the New York Police Department’s Firearms and Tactics Section at Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx and after spending several hours at a bar on City Island, proceeded to drive home when he stopped and parked in Pelham.
While his vehicle was parked in the vicinity of the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, the defendant approached a vehicle occupied by two individuals that had just stopped at a traffic light. The occupants were unknown to him.
The defendant stood alongside the passenger side of the victims’ automobile and fired numerous shots from a 9mm semi-automatic handgun into the victims’ car.
One victim, was shot six times and suffered serious physical injuries, including but not limited to multiple gunshot wounds to his back, shoulder, arm and chest, injuries that required multiple surgeries.
The defendant then proceeded to leave the scene and was stopped a few blocks away by Pelham police and subsequently arrested.
Additionally, it was determined that he had been operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.
The defendant was remanded to the New York State Department of Corrections.
Deputy District Attorney Timothy Ward of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
