March 16, 2017 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr., announced today that Joseph Graham (DOB 12/07/79) of 358 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers, NY pled guilty before Judge Barry Warhit to:

  • one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony

in the stabbing death of Clarence Vanhook.

On Sept. 12, 2016 at approximately 4:07 p.m., the defendant and the victim were both in the vicinity of 5 South Broadway in Yonkers. At that time, after the two men had gotten into a physical confrontation, the defendant stabbed the victim in the chest with a large knife, striking the victim in the heart.

Vanhook was rushed to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Shortly thereafter, the defendant, who matched the description given by witnesses, was observed by members of the Yonkers Police Department walking northbound on North Broadway.

After subsequent police investigation, the defendant was placed into custody.

His remand continues.

He will be sentenced on May 18, 2017.

The defendant faces a maximum of twenty-five years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney James Bavero of the Superior Court Trials Division is prosecuting the case.
