Nov. 12, 2012 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Kadian Gilzeane (DOB 11/15/84) of 8-10 North 9th Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York was arraigned today on an indictment charging her with:

· one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class "A-1" Felony,

relating to the death of her infant son on Aug. 3, 2012.

On August 3, 2012 at approximately 1:35 p.m. staff at the Mount Vernon Hospital Emergency Department called the Mt. Vernon police to report that a patient in the Emergency Department, who initially claimed to have suffered a miscarriage, had actually delivered a full term infant.

The defendant told hospital staff that after the delivery she placed the infant in a plastic bag, sealed it and placed it under the vanity in the bathroom of her residence.

Officers responded to the location, kicked in the door, proceeded to the bathroom where they found the lifeless body of an apparently full term baby boy as she had described.

Subsequent investigation determined that the baby boy was in fact full term and had been born alive.

The defendant had never revealed her pregnancy nor obtained pre-natal care.

Mount Vernon detectives questioned the defendant who was then placed under arrest.

"The real tragedy here is that with all the resources that are available in Westchester County to help and support expectant mothers and mothers of newborns, this defendant chose the worst possible outcome," said District Attorney Janet DiFiore after the defendant was arraigned. "Regardless of the challenges that this defendant may have faced, she now will be held accountable for her inexcusable actions."

The defendant was remanded.

Her next court date will be on Dec. 18, 2012.

She faces a maximum sentence of twenty five years to life in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Clark-DiRusso, of the Child/Elder Abuse Bureau, is prosecuting the case.
